Nov 28 KoOlina

We left the drizzle of the rains iand drove out to KoOlina and found the sun.The drive to the resorts is lined with big old trees. We parked in the public parking; when they built the resorts it was mandated that they must have areas for the public to park and use the lagoons.  The view here along the ocean is breathtaking. The flowers are being pollenated. The flowers are all so pretty. We went to the Mariott Resort where we had stayed 4 years in a row, but we unable to get a timeshare exchange this year.   Paula remembered us as did Tina who you will see later. This is the wall of the main stairs leading to the driveway entrance down to the main lawn. This is the Disney Resort. And here is Tina giving an orientation talk. She invited us to stay even though we are not guests this year. They are getting ready for the Fia Fia tomorrow night and want to give the  people a little hint of what they will see.He is getting ready for the preformance.Fist they tell of the importance of the shell horns; they invite people to come when the horn is blown long and hard.  But if you hear it short and fast you better run; it means danger.  Then there is the making of fire. The men of the tribe make the fire and do the cooking. The fire dance is impressive. The kaki are all called up front to dance with the men.  Kaki are the children. Two are chosen randomly and are given gifts; lots of palm leaf headbands and coconuts and a big palm tree basket.Climbing the coconut tree  is pretty neat to watch. This guy does a great job; his predecessor was awesome. They demonstrate how to skin and crack a coconut and then pass out some to selected guests. The Christmas decorations were not many, but mad it festive. Our last years room was up at the top of the palm tree.  Each night we watched and listened to the birds that came each night to roost in the trees.
