Nuevo Progresso

Image
We parked the MR2 in the lot and walked across the International bridge into the little town of Nuevo Progresso.  The sidewalks are lined with vendors; the shops are decking out for Christmas. Redsnapper is our new favorite spot.  You can drink a Corona for $1.50 and eat real Mexican food while listening to entertaining music. These guys do Mexican and country songs. Kathy met two other winter Texans who come here to eat and dance a little. We got up to dance too! Then Kathy got her boots cleaned!.

Calida got a new trailer that will soon be a food truck selling burgers and fries! We cleaned out Texas! Thought you might want to see inside the country store and beer garden bar area on a weekday early morning. Will is painting a flag on the side of the addition known as the doghouse. That is one big flag!  Making the star took string and math skills! Love the view out our van door!

We found the neatest little park between the highways. We learned a little history. Learned about those that lost their lives when the causeway fell and of those that had survived. Love driving around in the MR2!

Gladys Porter Zoo

Image
Our home zoo is in Brownsville,Texas.  We love it because just a few steps from  the entrance is the gorilla compound where a troop play and rest.  The two older males, Herumbe and Nzyng have been separated and come out in the yard when the rest of the troop go inside for the day.  Here is Martha and her almost one year old TJ (A family paid $5000 to name the baby: Tracey James after their two children). Samantha want to babysit, but Martha is keeping TJ with her; see how she is holding her leg. The huge crocodiles are doing well; they are hoping they will mate this year.  This big male opened his mouth.  They do that to regulate body temperature. The flamingoes were resting.  Peanut was over by the fence just waking up. Love seeing the freeloaders, animals and insects that frequent the zoo, but are wild and free. The spider monkeys put on a show! And you see the baby on the right side near the log? Scarlet is in the back, but the new baby was added to the exhibit here in the aviary. W
