We Loved Camping in the Tall Trees of Sabine National Forest

April 10, 2007 The rains continued. We made some coffee, fixed the map (Will puts a purple line over our root and marks the nightspots), finished the journal and off we continue north east. Exxon was the cheapest gas in Bridge City. We hate supporting this giant with such profits it has boasted, but the price was right. Dam 1 along the Neches River is a long expanse to stop the river from flooding. Dam 2 was a long expanse further up the valley. We drove some back country roads to Martin Dies Jr. State Park were we stopped and made some dinner, took a walk through the nature trail, and relaxed under the shower of hot running water. We saw a really large woodpecker on the ground! Continuing north we came to the Sabine National Forest, turned onto NF114. It quickly turned to mud. We turned around and went on NF117. Again mud. At the crossroads we made camp. Will started a smoke fire and we sat enjoying the tall trees of unit 902. Kathy worked on a willoq tray and the light started to go...
