"Today is a Good Day to Drive!" .....Van-Go

Andy and Dave Chappa opened an indoor miniture golf course and their grand opening was today. Puggy's Golf is right on Jackson Street and a great place to get away from the Texas winds or to cool off with some fun on a hot Texas day. Check them out. Andy Indoor Miniture Golf Dave Jackson Street in Harlingen, Texas has a Market Day each month. Vendors set up in the street selling someone elses treasures, foods of all description, treasures of days gone by, fresh fruits and veggies, and lots of stuff. A band entertains the crowds. This month the band, Philosopher Dave, played. Some of our favorite musicians from John Harley and the Bayview Bushriders also play in this band so it was a treat to hear them. It was an especially grand to see Andy again and to see him up singing. Even a few of the wives came to listen to the band.

Jan 17,2009 We tried the new Chinese Grand Buffet next to the Waldorf. Yum! Lunch would cost $6.99 and dinner in $8.99; weekends and holidays the price goes up a dollar. Seniors get a 10% discount when ever they go.

January 17, 2009 Mary and Bob told us of a new place to take our morning constitutional-a bike path on the east side of the Boggus Ford dealer. It follows the Arroyo Colorado; a great walking spot. Thanks for the sharing, Mary and Bob!

Morning on Laguna Madre, bay side of South Padre Island. We drove into Harlingen where we left the MR2 for a check up of the break system. There are some great murals around Harlingen and we found a second hand bookstore that has a great one. Kathy got a few books while we explored the shop.

March 1, 2007 We walked along historic Jackson Street in the city of Harlingen, Texas. Mostly we past antique shops filled with church rumage sale items and vintage collectibles. Jackson Street is the "antiques capitol of the Valley".There is a must stop at establishment- the old time soda shop! They have original signed posters of the Beatles and other memoribilia to entertain you while you sip a soda, lick an icecream cone or have a burger. We stopped to look at the many mural along the street. One of these days we will have to stop at the Chamber of Commerce and pick up a location list of the murals around town. There is also a mural to Bill Haley; his Rock Around The Clock became the Rock n'roll anthem after it was used in the movie Blackboard Jungle.
