MR2 and Time With Friends

Image
March 10, 2009 We went to the garage today to check on the progress of repairs to the MR2. It is slow work changing the 86 into an 87. Salizar has changed the back lights, trunk and front cowling. Next came the steering wheel, and seats. He still has to fix the trunk so it open with the lever and he has to fix the motor for the power window. The painting is done by needs buffed out and there are a few touch up spots. We hope it will be done soon. It has been all winter and we didn't even get to drive it! After checking on the car we stopped in to see Mary and Bud and Connie and Charlie. It was some good bonding time!

Time with Friends-Priceless

Image
January 9, 2009 We spent the afternoon with friends Mary and Bob. We played a game called Joker that has a wooden homemade board, pegs and each person has their own deck of cards to play with. Mary made us some homemade pizza that was really good! You start out with croissant dough baked for about 10 minutes then filpped and baked a few more making the crust nice and crisp. Then the crust is smothered with tomato sauce and all the fixings are added. Lastly it is baked till the cheeses melt. YUM! Thanks for a wonderful afternoon and evening, Mary and Bob!

Thanksgiving Day

November 27, 2008 We left the beach behind and headed over to Mary and Bob's. The men sat having "men talk" and enjoyed Connie's before dinner treats. And the ladies moved to the kitchen. Evelyn, Mary's Mom, had all the fixings prepared including pecan pie. Mary carved up the turkey. We sat together enjoying the meal thankful that we have such wonderful friends. After dinner we played one game with three dice with the letters C for center, L for left, R for right and a dot meaning keep. Everyone lays three quarters on the table and then the action begins. The quarters move around the table and into the center where the pile adds up. The last person with a quarter gets the pile. We played a game with three decks of cards before we enjoyed desert. Connie had made a pumpkin roll with rum whipped filling; Evelyn made a pecan roll with creamcheese filling and the best pumpkin crumble ever. Bud said she won best desert three years in a row with that one! It was really g...

Ohio River and on to Heron Pond, IL

April 24, 2007 We got up before chicken lady and joined Mary and Bob at their place for coffee. We heard about Fred, an elderly man, they had met years ago in Montana. He was an interesting character traveling about with his dog, Sheldon, who was company, but did not ohhh and awww at the sites. We left Mary and Bob to get on the road; they had 4-hundred miles or so make today. And we did some shopping then some internetting. Kathy did some shopping at the classy Good Will store next to the BWW- new Docker shorts for $2! Just about noon and we got on the road, MO62, heading east. Charleston was a neat little town that someone has pulled together with covers over the sidewalks. The Mississippi County courthouse stands in the center town. We came next to Cairo, where the Ohio joins the Mississippi and we cross over into Illinois. Across the river we drove into Fort Defiance State Park right down on the confluence of the two rivers and made some lunch. We did our morning constitutional aro...

Met Mary and Bob in Sikeston, MO

Image
April 23, 2007 We had a slow start to the morning listening to the wind in the trees and watching the sun slowly peek out of the clouds a few times. Will woke up slowly working his mind on a few Kurko puzzles. Kathy read her book, American Gods. Here is one from the book: “Henzelmann told them a story about his grandfather’s trumpet, and how he tried playing it during a cold snap, and the weather was so cold outside by the barn, where his grandfather had gone to practice, that no music came out. Then after he came inside he put the trumpet down by the woodstove to thaw. Well, the family’er all in bed that night and suddenly the unfrozen tunes start coming out of that trumpet. Scared my grandmother so much she nearly had kittens.” We hiked the two-mile trail through Crowley’s Ridge, named after a participant of War of 1812 and one of the first settlers in the area. The uniqueness of the region, the unusual soil types and rare plant species make this a prime area for research. There are...
