Our Own Palm Tree

December 15, 2007
We woke parked at the Walmart; we have a nice spot we like way off to one side where we face a little lawn and have our own palm tree. Not many people park in this area because it is farther to walk into the store; at night a few other overnighters park in the lot, but they park up with the trucks so we pretty much have this area to ourselves.

From there we drove to Victor Park, a community park with tennis courts, picnic area and fields for sports. The restrooms were locked, but no biggie as we have our own facilities. Will started up the generator and worked on a letter to the Chevy Guy in New Brunswick he has been formulating in his mind ever since we left Canada. The Roadtrek just stopped one day and we had to have it towed and lucky for us it was to a Chevy repair garage. We had our fuel tank fixed and they cut the fill tube. Roadtrek had designed a specialty one they didn’t have so they just jury rigged one. Fixed they said; we paid the bill of over a thousand dollars happy that our home on wheels was rolling again. The Roadtrek started up and off we went. They replaced the now cut tube with a tube that kinked causing the input of fuel to be a very slow process taking almost fifteen minutes or more to fill the tank. This we didn’t find out until we were miles away getting gas the first time since it was fixed. We had the fuel tube fixed at our home garage in Plum, Ifits, to the tune of $600. You can see why he has been festering on this one.

A group of young people with little children arrived at the gated picnic area and proceeded to decorate for a baby shower. The Texas winds made it a challenge for them to put up the strings of balloons, but the did just fine. The balloons looked nice wiggling in the wind. The plastic table clothes were billowing against the duct tape they used to hold it down. A big blow-up bouncer kept the children busy. As the guests were arriving with pots of food we drove off leaving them all the parking spaces.

We stopped at an auto parts store and spent too much time walking around looking at all the many items…well Kathy thought it was way too much time; Will liked looking at all the automobile guts and fix-it stuff. He chose some clear duct tape for fixing the headlight and some fancy silver tape for fixing the muffler…MR2 travel preparations.

It has gotten cooler and the winds are still blowing. We went back over to our Walmart home and settled in making dinner and watching a movie, a cartoon version of Lord of the Rings. It was dark, but early even for us when we crawled into bed with visions of driving in our heads.
