Ship Hector

Went to visit with our friend, Ashley. She volunteers at the Hector Quay where we had volunteered in 1998-2000 to help build and launch the replica of the ship that bright the first Scottish immigrants to the new world back in 1793.

The ship was a cargo ship and that year the cargo was 189 passengers headed for the new world and a better life.

Below deck were the sleeping bunks. Each family had one bunk and a pint of water for each day. That water was for washing, cooking and drinking. The voyage was to last 14 days but because a storm lasted 22 days crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

You can see our boat across the way.

I remember when you worked there and the stories you told about the ship. Nice history lessons.
