LBJ State and National Parks Oct 31, 2015

Lyndon B Johnson was born and raised here.  The Texas White House is here.

There are herds of white tailed deer.
We had volunteered here for several years in the winters.
Kathy dressed up in period clothes and talked with visitors, gave tours of the house to school groups and prepared meals in the traditional 1915 kitchen for the volunteers and staff.

The farm has a few cows,

lots of saddles, but horse right now,

and a few hens and turkeys.

What a pretty proud rooster we found strutting around.

The place looked the same, but with a different bed spread and nic-nacs changed a bit.

Check this idea; beer bottles to line your flower beds.

Kathy remembers doing canning here. Someone has been busy.

Stephen is still here; now as manager of the farm.  We had a nice chat about how things stay the same and how things change.

The sheep that we never saw on this side of the farm were so we watched them a while.

And before we left Will gave that cow a good ear scratching.

The Pedernales River is way over its banks.
This is where LBJ went to school from the time he was 4 years old.  He lived next door.

Imagine the dignitaries that traveled this same road on their way to the Texas White House.

More deer.

And the Johnston heffers.

This is a picture of a picture of what it looked like back in the day when LBJ was President.  The hanger is now the National Park Visitor Center; the gray garages still house the old cars and the house is now for tours.  Lucy, one of LBJ's daughters still leaves next door and sometimes uses the pool or stops over to give tours.

This is how LBJ collect; there were in cement and he made a friendship walk with them; today they are stored away.  These three were on exhibit.

This is the Texas White House.  The bottom floor is all renovated back to the time LBJ was here except for Lady Bird's bedroom which is as it was when she died at age 92.

No pictures are permitted, but I bet you can find some on the internet if you try.

Mr and Mrs Johnson are buried here on the property.

The river is flowing pretty good!

The house is well hidden behind all the live oaks.

So cute.

The mini Airforce One.

Yep, that is us departing just as LBJ did.
