The mangroves have such a neat root system; they help filter the water.Have you ever seen a panther cross the road?
We did see a turtle cross the road.
When it got to the other side it was stuck because there was no way for it to get under the fence; Will helped.
And he was so happy
he zoomed away to toward the canal.
This is an interesting road, FL29 with a canal on one side to the right of the guard rail.
And we renamed it Alligator Alley because of all the gators we saw.
There were birds too.
Sometimes we would park and go up to the rail for a closer look.
The gators didn't seem to mind.
Can you find the bird?
This great blue heron was soaring by.
Looks like he is smiling, right? Alligator's top jaw go out over their lower jaw and the teeth hang out. Crocodiles teeth fit inside the jaws.
Pretty area.
"Are you looking at me?"
Who was more startled, the black vulture or the alligator?
This is a wood stork.
The black vultures were coming in; love their wings.
Maybe they were going to have a meeting.
Here comes another one....
This is a tri-colored heron.
Wonder what you call a group of vultures?
Here come some ibis.
The wood stork moved.
More alligators...
They are cold blooded; this one is opening his mouth to regulate its body temperature.
Look carefully. See the one in the water?
He is bigger than the one on the grass mound and came up behind him.
The little one let the big one have the mound.
That big one was very happy about it too.
As we traveled along we looked for panthers but
all we found were bridges over the water and under the road for them to actually cross.
Can you say the name of this town?
Nice building; might be the courthouse.
There is a lot of water down here.
marshes and swamps
birds on the wires.
Now that looks like a friendly gator!
See how the teeth are fit so they overhang the jaw.
You could ride a boat through the Everglades for $30-40; we didn't.
Wow, a century plant. They say they send out flowers once in hundred years then the mother plant dies. We are enjoying exploring some of south central Florida.
