Segways on the Beach

Across the causeway

and on to South Padre Island was where the adventure began.

We donned our helmets and Rachel and Brian helped to get them fitted just right.

We are ready to step up on our Segways.

Rachel gives the basics of how the segway works

and what happens if something goes wrong.

Then we are off to practice.

Lean forward on your toes and you go forward.

Lean back on your heels and you stop.  The control is all in your feet for going and stopping.

To turn you move your handles right or left like a joystick.

Here is Sylvia stepping on for the first time.

And in a short few minutes she is comfortable and riding around on her own.

And so we all zip around getting comfortable with the feel and movement of our new wheels.

Will went to test out the deep soft sand...opps!  But Rachel got the segway up and going again.

Time to head to the beach!!  Oh my!

There was a lot of seaweed on the beach and children and dogs to work our way through.

But we managed and then we did a roll up the beach.

Break time; we got off and wiggled our toes.
While our Segways rested.
Well, most of us got off;  Will just kept on going!

We are ready for the return trip.

As the sun was setting we pulled back up to the parking area.

Rachel and Brian helped us off while we all bubbled with the excitement of the fun ride we had had.
If you get a chance to ride a segway, do it!!
