Las Vegas New Mexico Where the Plains meet the Mountains
Today is a good day to drive! This area of Las Vegas was occupied as early as 8,000BC by Paleo-Indians so we are not the first to be here. Pueblo Indians were present int he area during the 1100s and Comanche Indians camped in this area too. Spanish explorers cam in 1541 in search of the Cities of Gold and by the late 1700s settlements began to expand. In 1835 29 indiviuals applied for a Las Vegas Land Grant from the Mexican government. And they laid out a large plaza and surrounding community that is still here today.
