Gladys Porter Zoo

Our home zoo is in Brownsville,Texas.  We love it because just a few steps from  the entrance is the gorilla compound where a troop play and rest.  The two older males, Herumbe and Nzyng have been separated and come out in the yard when the rest of the troop go inside for the day.  Here is Martha and her almost one year old TJ (A family paid $5000 to name the baby: Tracey James after their two children).

Samantha want to babysit, but Martha is keeping TJ with her; see how she is holding her leg.

The huge crocodiles are doing well; they are hoping they will mate this year.  This big male opened his mouth.  They do that to regulate body temperature.

The flamingoes were resting.  Peanut was over by the fence just waking up.

Love seeing the freeloaders, animals and insects that frequent the zoo, but are wild and free.

The spider monkeys put on a show!

And you see the baby on the right side near the log?

Scarlet is in the back, but the new baby was added to the exhibit here in the aviary.

What a colorful fly.

Penny was tapping the glass to get Will's attention.

Chachalaca are very interesting birds.

We stopped in Small World and the goats came up to say hello.

The tigers got a new addition to their exhibit; shelves to climb and lay on.

There are three baby giraffe; can you find them?

This freeloader is a golden crowned woodpecker.

The new education building is almost done on the outside.

The rhino are not paying attention tot he freeloading whistling ducks.

A new roof of palm leaves is being put on the deck.

There is a new male orangoutang, but seems once he is out he doesn't want to go back in.  Last time he was out for almost a week!.  This is the youngest.

There are a few new kangaroos; they always look up when we cluck.  Maybe they think we are strange.
