Western Most Point on Ohau

We drove from our resort west along the coast highway.

At the dead end there is an old road that we began to hike along.

The views were spectacular!

The rugged coast was so awesome!

We found natural bridges!

Along the way we stopped for a snack.

And continued along the path, but the path dropped away so we climbed the rocks and peeked into tide pools as we continued.

We came to a fence with sliding doors.

And continued on; the path got sandy but we could see the end.

We made it to the western most point on Oahu
!

The waves were much larger around the bend!

It is out here that there are 80 foot waves!

And Hawaiian Monk Seals.

We saw two sunning themselves.

There was broken ancient choral and we selected some prize pieces.

Those seals were so peaceful.

What a special place worth the three mile hike to get out here.

But it was time to turn around.

Can you see the beak inside that nest?  It is a Shearwater bird!!!

Can you find this one?

The views on the way back were just as spetacular!

Back through the gate we went.

We could hear a blow hole and found a sea cave down there.

The drive back to the resort passes a great valley to one side and the ocean on the other.

Oh my goodness we found a cave!!  This is an ancient cave about 150,000 years old.  Legend has it that it is here in the womb of the earth that humans were born.

Behind Kathy is a crawl space.....maybe to another room!

That is the view to the opening where we came in.

Will is walking to the back of the large cavern; there was another crawl space back there into another smaller room, but we did crawl through.

This is where the cave is.

That is where the state park begins; the road ends about five miles down the beach and that is where the hike began.

We watched the sun set as we made our way back to the resort filled with memories of a grand adventure.
