August has Arrived

August 3, 2007
Summer sun shines bright in Pittsburgh. We have put the air conditioner on and spend the afternoons inside staying cool. The mornings are spent on the front porch sipping coffee, enjoying our bran high in fiber cereal with blueberries or banana and watching the birds and squirrels.

Will works in the yard keeping it trim. The old tree trunk has finally rotted; eleven years ago it was a place for the children to climb up on and dig out the center. We sifted a few buckets of peat and put it around the plants inside and out. The grass in the back yard, a half acre with big old trees here and there is a rich green and damp. That means mosquitoes in the evenings, but that is okay because by that time Will is inside watching TV and or playing Fate.

Kathy works on her craft projects and reads, bakes bread, and tries out new recipes from magazines. The neighbors are getting lots of treats!

Jayne is healing nicely. The doctor removed the two drainage tubes and most of the staples. She felt like dancing! She and Kathy went shopping, her first trip outside. They did about an hour. That was not enough for Kathy so later that night Kathy met up with her sister, Maria and niece, Jessica at a place called Treasure House. This unique shop has gently used professional clothes for women. For just fifteen dollars you get a small brown bag filled with clothes, shoes, purses, scarves, jewelry, whatever you can stuff into the bag. Larger bags are just twenty-five dollars. Between us we filled a small bag and each had a few “treasures”. Kathy’s were a pair of cargo pants and a set of old fashion hatpins.

In Will’s other life he had designed and created several stainglass pieces. Many of them hung on the walls around Jayne’s. We have taken them and hung them in windows to show off their beauty. One unique one is of sunflowers, several are “Frank Lloyd Wright” types, and a few are just creative masterpieces. We carry two along with us in the Roadtrek, gifts to Kathy back in the dating years: one of a rocket ship, one of tulips with three dimensional pieces.
