Jayne Came Home

July 25, 2007
Forbes Hospital has joined with many others around the country with adding pay parking to its lots. It is $2 to pay to park in a spacious lot out in the country and $5 to have an attendant park your car for you. The first day we thought we could beat the cheat and parked in the employee free parking lot. That got us a $10 citation! So we have a new approach for today.

Kathy dropped Will off at the main entrance, the only way to get in free to the hospital campus other than the emergency entrance. Will brought his Mom bright happy flowers and a balloon with a picture of an ocean lighthouse. He stayed for about four hours; he had a book to read and a kukuo puzzle book to work on.

Meanwhile, Kathy stopped at Target. What a difference when you are use to Wal-Mart. The prices were all a little higher on items she recognized. They had some sale items on foods and she picked up a variety for a surprise mailing to Justin. She came for birdseed and left with three bags and 25lbs of birdseed. Next, she tried to get her hair cut, but the walk-in salon at the bottom of the hill was not open. At Jayne’s she cleaned the kitchen cupboards with Murphy’s Oil just like Sueann taught her, cleaned the counters and scrubbed the floor. Before heading back to the hospital she did a little computer work, munched on some blueberries and yogurt and chatted with her sister.

Justin bought himself a new I-phone and sent us his old phone which was on our phone plan so now we each have a phone, well until August 7th when the contract is up on his phone and we have it shut off. Kathy called Will and he came down to meet her at the main entrance. They switched places.

Will drove home and did some yard maintenance and put in some computer time. Kathy walked across the new marble floor of the main entrance that just opened last week to the elevator and road up to the sixth floor. She wound her way through the hospital wing, around nursing stations, past patient rooms to the back where Jayne’s room was. Jayne was awake and had just finished lunch. She had a good appetite. Those two talked about this and that, the weather and the sounds of the hospital. to the elevator and road up to the sixth floor. Those two talked about this and that, the weather and the sounds of the hospital. Jayne’s nurse for the day was Shari; she popped in and out checking the drainage tubes and the regular blood pressure, temperature stuff. Shari had Jayne get out of bed and sit in the chair. She was glad to get out of bed and move around a bit. The physical therapist came and walked with her out into the hall, had her moving her arms and legs around. Everyone is amazed at Jayne’s movement abilities for her age. Shari wants to bottle it for other patients! The physical therapist had Jayne lay down and did some arm stretching exercises; that hurt! But Jayne was a trooper.

She rested and napped a bit after that ordeal. Kathy read magazines. About 4pm Will returned to the hospital with Aunt Ruth; Kathy went back to Jayne’s house for a while then returned to the hospital. Dr. Naman had just been in and said, “What are you still doing here; go home.” Will waited with the car. Kathy checked at the desk as to why they were sending her home at 7pm. Kathy had thought that her primary care doctor would be in, but he had not come and Dr. Naman was the surgeon and signed the release papers. Well, it was about another hour and a half by the time the night nurse, Michelle, came in and showed Jayne how to empty the drainage tubes and explained the discharge report to her. Bruce, the aid, wheeled Jayne down to the car. Aunt Ruth and Kathy tagged along behind and carried Jayne’s belongings. Settled inside the car we dropped Aunt Ruth off at home then went to Bill Pharmacy to get the prescription filled even though Kathy said it would be closed. Bill’s was closed so we had to drive to another pharmacy. Jayne insisted on going in to get her own prescription.

Back at the house Jayne was trying to tidy up and put things away and finally tired and hurting she let Kathy help her into pjs and get into bed. She slept all night. So did we!
