Will got up about 5:00AM and found the water frozen. He turned on the engine, rearranged the outside heat lamps and stayed up playing computer games. Kathy got up at sunrise. We watched the sun come up over the mountains and work its way down into the valley. Will tried the water; it ran. Wow were we lucky. For our morning walk we headed up the valley to visit JMe. There was ice in the road puddles and in the pond. We continued a bit and explore the new ponds 10 and 11; they are big. Back at the lodge we met up with Lanier, Matt and Leroy just heading out to winterize the rooms, fix the stream at pond 11 and do what ever else they need to do. We sat on the lodge deck and had a second breakfast. Will worked on the birdhouse for JMe and Kathy picked willow and started a basket. We took the birdhouse and a snack. up to her grave site where we sat for a long while. We watched birds flitter, airplanes streak the sky and bugs buzz. We had the 4x4 and went up the mountain to the top meadows where we came across a herd of about a dozen horses. They preformed for us running about. When we got back down we took the 4x4 up the valley. We saw Lanier running the backhoe digging up dirt to fill around rocks where the water had eroded. We said hello and continued following the same path Justin and Kathy took Mother’s Day 2004. The path has grown over a lot and lots of trees were down. Good thing Matt had gone up earlier in the month and cut a path. It was a perfect fall day in the mountains. It was getting late when we got back to the lodge and the cold north wind was blowing. We said our goodbyes. Today was Matt’s last day and he too was heading out. He beat us to the gate. Leroy will be spending the winter. Lanier is heading out tomorrow for a hunting trip in Canada with her family. It was 5pm and we headed back out that narrow bumpy dirt road. We thought we were going to vibrate apart, but we made it. It took us about an hour to hit Pecos. We celebrated by buying some lemon chips and eating icecream. Driving felt good so we drove all the way to Albuquerque where we pulled into the Waldorf and enjoyed a movie before bed.
