January 18, 2009 We met Jerri and Bob at the gorilla exhibit of Gladys Porter Zoo and in our hour or so chit chat session we told them about Harley's Sunday night free BBQ and the best country music in the Valley, John Harley and the Bayview Bushriders. Well, we were plesantly pleased to see them there! They joined us and our friends Connie and Bud for a wonderful night.

Jan 17,2009 We tried the new Chinese Grand Buffet next to the Waldorf. Yum! Lunch would cost $6.99 and dinner in $8.99; weekends and holidays the price goes up a dollar. Seniors get a 10% discount when ever they go.

January 17, 2009 Mary and Bob told us of a new place to take our morning constitutional-a bike path on the east side of the Boggus Ford dealer. It follows the Arroyo Colorado; a great walking spot. Thanks for the sharing, Mary and Bob!

RedHead Express Roadies

January 15, 2009 When we were in Branson, MO with our friends Mary and Bob we went to see the RedHead Express, a family of nine from Palmer, Alaska. We loved their singing of bluegrass and gospel music, and telling jokes. They made us feel so good we bought their CD and followed them via their website and e-newsletter. Their road trip was bringing them to Harlingen, Texas for an audition. We decided to be their Roadies for a day and designed tee shirts and everything. We met up with them at Sunshine RV Park where we got to walk and babysit Cocoa, the lab, hold cameras and car keys, photograph warm ups, and man their information desk. Of course we also got to be in the auditorium during their 9-minute performance that just knocked the socks off everyone there. As they began everyone stopped their chit-chatting, heads turned, and before they were even finished agents were in line to book them for the 2010 season. Part of being Roadies for a day was to serve the family dinner; so, while B...

Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville TX

Image
January 15, 2009 We love the Gladys Porter Zoo. There are so many animals in a small area that where ever you stand you can see several species at the same time. The animals are active and entertaining, the habitats well maintained and are set so that the animals can be viewed from many angles. The merkats, unlike our Pittsburgh zoo where they are in one exhibit, are spread into many small ones. This little guy was being protective of his space as we peeked in on him. Love the bearded hog; he usually snorts at us....his way to say hello. Althougth the other giraffe ignored us, the baby looked over. Kathy's dad loved giraffe; they were at the zoo in Rome, Italy and he let one reach down and grab his shirt with its long tongue. There is a new baby mandrill monkey that mom is still protecting closely. The gibbon monkeys love to put on a show and yell at everyone. There is also a new baby spider monkey. The baby orangatang is an act all by himself! The silverback gorilla is a fanta...
