Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville TX

We love the Gladys Porter Zoo.





















There are so many animals in a small area that where ever you stand you can see several species at the same time. The animals are active and entertaining, the habitats well maintained and are set so that the animals can be viewed from many angles. The merkats, unlike our Pittsburgh zoo where they are in one exhibit, are spread into many small ones. This little guy was being protective of his space as we peeked in on him. Love the bearded hog; he usually snorts at us....his way to say hello. Althougth the other giraffe ignored us, the baby looked over. Kathy's dad loved giraffe; they were at the zoo in Rome, Italy and he let one reach down and grab his shirt with its long tongue. There is a new baby mandrill monkey that mom is still protecting closely. The gibbon monkeys love to put on a show and yell at everyone. There is also a new baby spider monkey. The baby orangatang is an act all by himself! The silverback gorilla is a fantastic dad; today he let the two young female kids hit him on the back and run off without getting mad. We love the zoo so much we....

Pandemic

 This has been a strange year. We arrived in Florida in March and have stayed home since. That is about 6 months now. The Covid-19 virus has set the world to be a different place with stay at home orders, restaurants and bars closed, shelves in the grocery stores empty of toilet paper and antiseptic good, virtual school and doctor visits, hospitals that don’t let visitors enter and no only emergency care, wearing a mask when you are in public and people staying six feet apart. Who knows what the new world will be like after this.

Cliff married my little sister, Maria and became part of our family. We traveled to Italy together one summer Cliff had the coolest Man Cave! He really enjoyed technology and used it at work, home and helped everyone enjoy theirs too. He bought a boat that he and my sister enjoyed for many years. He walked his daughter down the isle. And welcomed Travis into his family. Not long after Layla was born and he became a very proud Pap Pap. He and my sister retired to Florida. Where Cliff learned to golf. One of my best memories are of our Cookie Days together. Cliff worked at Lowes and enjoyed his job in the paint department. He got sick; he found out he had stage 4-bladder cancer. We went on our traditional breakfast together each time we got together over the years. He finished the first round of chemo treatments. But the cancer went into his bones.
