RedHead Express Roadies
January 15, 2009
When we were in Branson, MO with our friends Mary and Bob we went to see the RedHead Express, a family of nine from Palmer, Alaska. We loved their singing of bluegrass and gospel music, and telling jokes. They made us feel so good we bought their CD and followed them via their website and e-newsletter. Their road trip was bringing them to Harlingen, Texas for an audition.
We decided to be their Roadies for a day and designed tee shirts and everything. We met up with them at Sunshine RV Park where we got to walk and babysit Cocoa, the lab, hold cameras and car keys, photograph warm ups, and man their information desk. Of course we also got to be in the auditorium during their 9-minute performance that just knocked the socks off everyone there. As they began everyone stopped their chit-chatting, heads turned, and before they were even finished agents were in line to book them for the 2010 season.
Part of being Roadies for a day was to serve the family dinner; so, while Brett and Apryll were booking their 2010 visit to the Valley solid, we rolled out the awning, set up all our tables and chairs and prepared dinner. We put out our Russia book, Felipe, the sliding bird Rudy made for us, a conch shell horn, a whistle walking stick Maria gave us, the calendar that Captain Bart made of our Nova Scotia sailing trip and a vase of pink carnations. Dinner was burrito appetizers, dishes of pepper rings, black olives, a dish of fresh cilantro, a block of Asiago cheese, and Tuesday Spaghetti dinner, served on Thursday of course. We brought out our bottomless box of chocolates for desert.
It was fun entertaining Cocoa. The boys, Ammon, Joseph, and Sean had fun building towns and roads with New World, the game Justin had sent us for Christmas. Ammon became an expert conch shell blower much to the amusement of everyone who came within a hundred yards of the Roadtrek. Kendra, LaRae, Megan and Alissa each had time to talk with us. Kathy shared our Russia book with Apryll. Brett got his chocolate fix and a little boost from a dish of French Vanilla ice cream smothered in Sandy's famous fudge sauce. We sent them on their way with full bellies, a Van-go Roadies pillow, a Van-go calendar, a bag of Ruby Red grapefruit; and, they each got a necklace made from shells we picked up at South Padre Island the day before.
