Friends at LBJ State Park, TX

It was a day to visit with friends at LBJ so we headed over to the farm. There were people coming and going; today was filled with activity. Children were invited to make a cedar wreath, wax candle and decorate a sugar cookie. Virginia and Steve were down at the farm with volunteers so we had a nice visit. Iris, Park Superintendent came along with her two boys. After checking on the chickens, three big pigs, fine looking turkeys and calves we headed to the visitor center. Zee was working the desk and gave us a warm welcome. Last year Mrs. Ladybird Johnson died; the house was donated to the National Park and they are restoring it. The west wing office will be open next year to celebrate the 100th year of President Johnson. Valerie just happened to be in town; she and Dave have moved to Oklahoma where Dave is manager of the Custer National Historical Park. Beverly happened to be in the office; she had surgery and is awaiting a liver transplant (Keep her in your prayers). She looked good and was happy to see us. Her daughter, Erin and her daughter stopped by too. Next door at the Exhibit building Charley was making a log cabin out of pretzel sticks and icing. The roof was made of gum! Charley has won many first places for her creations of gingerbread houses and sugar castles. We all went over and the kids each painted a wooden gingerbread ornament. Later we caught up with Ricky at the maintenance building and had a nice little chat. We missed seeing a few people, but we will be in the area a few more days and hope to catch up with them. It was a grand visit. The people here at LBJ are not just people we worked with; they are friends.
