Deer Island Ferry to New Brunswick Canada

Image
We took the Deer Island Ferry, drove around to the other side of Deer Island and sat relaxing a while.  This is the next ferry across to New Brunswick.  It is a steep down on to the ferry so we sat contemplating how we were going to do that.  But in the end we just scraped a little getting on. It is about a 20 minute ride to the mainland.  Not much to see in the foggy mist. This is the climb into Canda mainland. We stopped for the night at the ferry crossing. This morning we continued on our trip toward Pictou, Nova Scotia. the Musquash Estuary has an amazing waterfall. Hard to see from this angle and the mist, but very impressive. We found a nice pink lupine blooming. And this unique pine tree with the soft green needles. The roads have gotten a lot better since our last time here; we took an interstate!.  We arrived at St. John where there are the Reversing Falls. Below in the mist and fog you can make out the water churning as the tides change the falls rever...

Eastport Maine

Before leaving Machias we stopped to see Fort OBrien. You can see where the bunkers were and they still fly a flag.  It overlooks Machias Bay. We found a blueberry company!! Not very busy on Sunday. Maine has some very interesting homes.  We like to call them Maine monstrosities because they go on and on with concoctions of connections of buildings.. The fire weeds are blooming! Just not too straight. They make their own mustard!  The sone was cracked so we didn't get to see them making any this time through, but we did sample some and bought a jar to enjoy along the way. Eastport is the easternmost city in the USA!! We check out where we could come to take the ferry over to Deer Island, Canada. There an eagle just to the right of that biker.  We were sitting here watching the whirlpool when the eagle past. The postoffice is getting a face lift.  Inside is just so amazing.  Look at this woodwork. The postmaster showed us the marble fireplace in the office! ...

Not Feeling So Well

Image
Been a bit under the weather the last few days.  Spent lots of time sleeping.  Will took Kathy to the emergency room where they figured out she has a very sore throat and a very stuffed up head.  Dr. Collin Coors prescribed some meds and she has been taking them.  The meds give a false sense of having energy so there are moments she feels like running laps around the van only to feel total exhaustion moments later.  She is drinking lots of water trying to flush her system.  And so we are sitting watching the crows in the field, listening to the rain on the van and taking it easy relaxing here in Machias, ME.  Not really feeling much like exploring or traveling so sitting is our present occupation. Hope you all have a great few days as we head in to the weekend.

Quoddy Head Pull Off

We spent about three days parked here.  Kathy wasn't feeling well so we just pulled over as our lifestyle permits.  Kathy slept Will watched the tide come and go. Sunrise or sunset.  Kathy slept through them both. Will enjoyed the beautiful days and took care of Kathy making sure she was drinking enough and ate a little and was warm. Will made friends with a porcupine. Sunrise or  sunset Kathy just slept. On day four Will took Kathy to the hospital; she has strep throat and a sinus infection.  She is now on meds a starting to feel better already!  We are going to stick around here another day or two until she feels herself again before crossing over to Canada.
