At the Farm

Woke to a sunny bright day. A squirrel shook his tail at us perched high in his tree. Birds came around to check out this big white thing parked near their favorite trees. The Farm is perched on a hill; we could see the front porch with swing and rocking chairs. We walled up and a group of toddlers tumbled like puppies, parents stood chatting and Brian greeted us by name. We had just met Brian last night. What an exciting story he and his Mom shared with us about the early start for this great musical group, The Henningsens. You will have to wait for the book to come out, but here is just a glimpse: Mom caught a young Brian looking at himself in the reflection of the front picture window standing in his cowboy boots with that look in his eye. The one that says, I know who I am. What a moment for a Mom to witness. And all these years he never knew she was watching. I can't wAit for the book so get busy writing, Brian! Behind the house is a web of old logging roads; we hiked aroun...

Primm

Kathy had a nice long chat with Friends from Land Between The Lakes area of KY. They happened to be in Nashville visiting their kids. That got us to thinking. Will had read on one of the RHE pages about them going to Primm something or other so we looked it up and it was only a few hours drive. We called them up and arrangements were made. Primmstock was an amazing eclectic collection of musicians and songwriters! If have not heard of the Henningsens you should look them! Clara sings with the voice of a star and has that twinkle in her eyes to capture your heart. Aaron is that fun lovin type who gets behind his guitar and hauls you into the music. He even hit the drums! Dad, Brian, the bass guitar player has a great voice bringing in harmonies with Clara and Aaron. And they are very gracious peoe to boot letting us join their party. We surprised the Walker girls. They each saw us, gave a big smile and came over with open arms. We missed the Walker Boys playing but did get to hear t...

Bye Forest

"I got a way. Over here. Here they come. Come girls". It was a chase game the kids at the camps were playing. They ran all around us giggling and laughing. It was 8am. Will slept through the entire game and got up when they all headed out for a big long family hike. Spot must have found better food; he wasn't around. We cleaned up. Spot stopped by looking for his breakfast and we ablighed him. He came one other time snooping around as if to say goodbye. We headed out of the forest. Our first stop was Bookport where we found a community park and made fish for lunch. Seem appropriate as we were along the Ohio River. We spent most of the afternoon there playing scrabble and enjoying the breeze. the next part of the drive started with the crossing of the Ohio River. What a grand river fast flowing with barges moving in both directions. We didn't see any little spot along the river to drive down and get close. It was all flood plain fields. The drive over to Mayville ...

Metal Rungs leading up

Morning. Rain rain rain. Cooler. Spot was curled in a doggie ball at the door when we came out today. Glad he was warmer and dryer there. He greeted us with a big stretch and the friendly tail wiggle. Will got a fire going and put up mores screening to help keep some heat in. Spot chose to curl up outside the netting when it wasn't raining. But joined us inside when it poured. Sometimes he would just walk inside put his head on Kathy's lap. He would follow her to the bathroom but would scout the campground on his way back. Will gave him scratches. Kathy gave him animal crackers. He doesn't listen to any commands. We tried the usual: sit, stay, down, come. We got no reaction at all. We shouted thinking he couldn't hear, although he would look at us there was still no reaction. He is such a pretty dog, great form, happy proud prance. His stance when he is alert to some sound we don't hear is like a pointer dog. So many questions as to where he came from and what to h...

Spot

It was afternoon and we heard on the weather radio that there is a fifty percent chance of rain tomorrow and we didn't want to be here in this low spot. Will has carried buckets of gravel from the road and built up the area a bit but not enough if it should rain, so we packed up and headed for somewhere with high ground. It felt good to be in the Roadtrek driving grey road moving under our tires. We stopped in Eddyville, a small town with a few roads. The gas station served as a general store too. We got gas in the generator and picked up chips. An expensive bag of chips! And made a few quick phone calls to let family know we are staying out of touch a while longer. Our drive ended in the Shawnee National Forest Rosebud Campground site #17. Yep right where we were before. We set up camp a little differently by parking facing the trees. We sat down to enjoy the view of the setting sun between the tall trees when he walked into our lives as though he belonged there. First he peeke...
