Natchez Trace
On October 11,1809, just ten days and two hundred years ago, Meriwether Lewis died here of what are believed to be self inflected gunshot wounds. He was on his way to Washington with is journals. The monument, designed with a broken shaft showing his life was cut short at age 35, marks his grave.
It was getting along in the day when we drove through the campground to check it out and found a travelers surprise: a free 32 site campground. It is a first come first serve no reservation 14-day limited facility with a campground host. There are no bathhouses or hook-ups, but there are restrooms with flush toilets, water on a stick, and garbage pick-up. We decided to stay the night. Our site, number one, although near the road has view of the valley. We set up camp, played a game of Scrabble, had veggie stir fry for dinner and then went in and watched the 1992 movie 20000 Leagues Under The Sea
Today is a Good Day to Drive!
