Ashland

Henry clay inn is named after the Henry clay of Hannover county who was using the original old Ashland Hotel as it was known then as a dormitory for students. It burnt to the ground in 1946. The new Inn was built in 1991 by the Millers. Our room was one of 14. It was decorated in antique style and was very modern

We were lucky enough to have a family with children come in late and stay up plying cards in the hall outside our rooms. The amtrack runs right outside the front door and we got to hear the going through town all night. Gotta love a train!

Before we retired we had strolled the streets of town. The Raldolph Macon College is a beautiful campus. We did a little shopping and went to the Fireside Grill for dinner. I loved the fried oysters and the legends beer. After a little more walking about we stopped in the Ashland Coffee and Tea and listened to the Family Miller Band playing some jazzy big band grateful dead beatle music.

A great day!!
