Sueann's New Kitchen
The call arrived from Kathy's big sister, Sueann. She needed some help organizing the new kitchen. She will have her two grandchildren, Stella and Silas, staying over for a week in just a few days. The livingroom floor has to be cleared for refinishing. Boxes are everywhere and have to be emptied. All of the walls have to be washed down and two of them have to be repainted. Furniture has to be moved out of the livingroom. Sueann was feeling a bit frazzled.
Kathy headed south through the Liberty Tubes and stopped to pick up some lunch. She brought grilled chicken salad and they sat out on the deck eating and discussing their attack plans. Crows called out giving ideas, leaves drifted down and the cool autumn air refreshed their spirits. They were ready to take on the livingroom.
Boxes first. What fun they had sorting and arranging. Pots and pans, dishes and more dishes, wine glasses, water glasses, more wine glasses and lots of serving bowls and fansy dishes. Nic nacs and display dishes were reboxed for later. Kathy smiled as Sueann alphabetized her spices. Next came the furniture and art work. They found a home for all of them leaving only the couch and two chairs to be moved to the garage later. Sueann did permit a few breaks between the action. Once she pulled a bottle of clear liquid refreshment out of the fridge and took a swig; she handed it to Kathy while she answered the telephone. Kathy lifted the bottle to her mouth, took a long pull. The liquid hit her tongue and she almost gagged. It was some kind of flavored sweet water stuff. Not bad when you know what's comming, but sure a shock when you are expecting bland plain old cold water. Little Foot, one of Sueann's cats, helped out by dusting off the furniture. Don brought us McDonald's chicken sandwiches. (They have more calories than a hamburger if you can believe!) We ended our session with pumpkin pecan icecream-thanks, Don. Sueann, thanks for calling and letting Kathy play with setting up your kitchen with you....like playing house when you were little.
