Texas Zoo and Pizza Hut Wild Wing Street in Victoria

April 1, 2007

We sold the Roadtrek last night at the Gonzales Rodeo. Not really sold it so much as traded it for two horses and the right to buy twenty-seven acres of Hill Country ranch…April Fool.

We had a slow easy morning. Cuero has many historic buildings; they are renovating the county courthouse. The wifi hotspot was near McDonalds so we got a breakfast sandwich. At the church nearby children looked for colored eggs in the grass. We continued on US87 heading south to Victoria. The wildflowers carpet the sides of the divided highway. We went from sunny to partly cloudy to partly sunny to cloudy. But it was a warm 83 degrees.

The Texas Zoo, located in Victoria, has two young tiger cubs. The parents were out first. Mom Tiger is not fond of people and really dislikes cell phone cameras. The zoo keeper came out when a man tried taking a picture the tiger leaped against the bars and growled. The keeper didn’t like seeing the tiger upset. The female tiger had given birth to the cubs four days after arriving at the zoo last year and was too anxious to raise her cubs. They were hand raised therefore. They will be going to the zoo in FL soon. Shortly after the parents were put inside and the two cubs were put out to play. They ran through the water, chased each other, pounced and played like kittens. The special thing about the enclosures at the Texas Zoo is that all of the animals can get up close and personal with the visitors with just bars and a short distance between them. Really neat seeing tigers that close! There is also a new baby zebra. It was fun watching Mom Zebra with her little colt. At this small zoo they pack in a lot to see and enjoy.

We got a call from Kathy’s niece, Jess. In a very teary voice she told us her news: she is pregnant and wanted to know how to break the news to her parents. She let Kathy go on a bit then…she got us with this April Fools!

We made our way to Wal-Mart and did some shopping then drove over to Pizza Hut Wing Street. This restaurant/bar has the best of both worlds: pizza and hot wings along with other yummy choices. We played some trivia and got onto the national board!! We were #13 in the nation! The manager, Carol, gave us our beers for half price as a little congrats. Nice atmosphere and friendly people made our experience special. This franchise should do well, expect to see them popping up around the country.

We parked outside for the night. Our evening entertainment was finishing our first movie in the Harry Potter series, Sorcerers Stone.
