Seeing Shreveport by Segway

After our morning constitutional around the Boardwalk including the parking lot steps, we watched the trolley come out for a run. 
Jen, we thought of when you took us on the San Francisco trolley! Then we sat out near the river reading and Kakuro puzzling. 
Sueann, a geko came along to say hello to us!
We discussed riding those Segway thingies and called Adam. He met us at the park around three in the afternoon. He brought three of the older model Segways with him. Adam gave us the particulars:
1). There are three keys of different colors that represent the top speed the Segway will go when that key is used. Kathy started with black, the lowest speed, Will started with yellow, the middle speed, and Adam used the red for fastest.
2). When the happy face appears on the handlebar controls the machine is ready. To make the face happy you press the blue button once, level the stand and press it again.
3). The left hand knob turns and makes the Segway rotate around in the direction it is turned.
4). Press down with your toes to go forward and down on your heals to stop.
We were ready. Kathy stepped up on her Segway and leaned a little forward and the Segway went forward. She leaned back on her heals and it slowed, stopped then went backwards. She played with the turn knob until she felt comfortable. See her in action in the Movie Gallery. Meanwhile Will was off riding around. We headed down the paved trail along the river with Adam in the lead.
Unlike any other two-wheel vehicle you have ever ridden, there is no balance required. It was like standing on the ground, except that it was moving. It was really fun. Will ventured off the paved trail several times exploring the possibilities the Segway offered.
Suddenly Will’s Segway was making noises, then it stopped altogether. The battery was out of charge. Adam walked it back while Will and Kathy rode back and continued to ride up in the rose patio area of the park until Adam got his machine back to his vehicle. What a great experience and a really unique way to see the area.
