Intracoastal Waterway at Port O'Connor

April 2, 2007
It was a slow start kinda morning, but we finally made it up and out. We drove to Port Lacava down on the Matagorda Bay. Along the way the wildflowers brightened our way. Saw all the boats and thought of Maria and Cliff ready to get their boat into the water in Pittsburgh. We stayed along the bay near the long fishing dock of Port O’Connor for lunch, then made our way around to the intracoastal waterway and watched the boats and ships coming and going. People have built their fancy homes with docks and decks all along the waterfront. Property is going fast. Brown pelicans sat on sticks in the water and dove head first into the water gulping at fish. Sea gulls laughed, swallows zipped about eating at skeeters and those skeeters that got away were finding us. We drove down Stella Ave, thinking of Kathy’s little niece, and turned on Sourlook Ave where we parked facing the waterway. We watched tugs pushing barges, fishing boats with lines ready, commercial fishing boats going to get their catch, and pleasure boats out on a joy ride. We settled in with Kathy reading and Will playing Fate. As darkness came so did the moonrise. We watched The Chamber of Secrets; another Harry Potter flick while munching popcorn then crawled into bed.
