Today we got up early. The sun comes up over Diamond Head. The waves rush in from the deep Pacific waters. After breakfast we rented our car from Dollar. First stop was picking up Justin at his house. We had our map and Justin on the cell phone so made it with no problems. Our trip today was to the north shore, surfing capital of the world. We made for the freeway, H1 and on to H2. In Wahiawa we go on to route 80/99. Our first stop was the Dole Factory where we entered the world's largest maze according to the 2001 Guinness Book of World Records, with over 1.7 miles of paths and over 100,000 feet of space. What a way to get lost in paradise. We had to find stands where you marked off shapes that were located throughout the maze. A little over an hour and we had done it! Maria had to do it twice because she had just circled the areas instead of marking each shape. Then we ate pineapple ice cream that was smooth and rich and yummy. A bit of shopping and back in the car. Next stop in the quaint little town of Haleiwa, Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill located right at the harbor. The fish was fresh from the Pacific Ocean.
The beaches were sandy, the surf was rough. Walimea, Sunset, and Pipeline beaches were all crowded with sun worshipers, surfers and people watchers. Maria just wanted some beach time and we were sightseeing. After a bit of a misunderstanding we continued along and stopped at Hauula Beach Park for some sun. From there we continued around to the Macadamien nut farm where we sampled nuts of different flavors and coffee. Justin's favorite were the cinnimin covered macademia nuts and the Kono coffee flavored with macademia nuts. We shopped a bit then headed down Pali Highway and into Honolulu. We treated Justin to Sushi at his favorite place, California Beach. His aunts each gave him a graduation gift. Your could tell he appreciated the gift cards and money, especially since he is between university life and work life right now. We dropped Justin off at his place and headed for the Dollar Rental office. This time on the way we got lost driving a few times around Hard Rock Cafe, but we got back to drop off the car on time to ge the shuttle back to the hotel.
