Sante Fe NF Dinner with new friends

Image
At the end of the campground circle our campground hosts, Jerry and Fran have their camp set up with electric, sewer dump and a tank of fresh water. They invited us to dinner. We sat around enjoying drinks and snacks when   A man and woman drove up with a frantic woman who had lost her son.  She had been drinking and her story changed to her son took the truck and was going hiking and had not returned; he and his friend are 14.  Jerry called on his radio and  someone was on their way. Jerry fishes the stream each day and has caught some rainbow trout.  Fran breaded them and they are ready to be fried for our dinner. Oh my they were so fresh and tender. Sante Fe NF Hikes

Part of being up in the National Forest is the hiking.  We went out a few hours every day. There were some grand vistas! We met some creatures along the way too. Butterflies,  Black tailed squirrels, Western Tanagers, chipmunks, broadtailed hummingbirds, crows, Stellar Jay, and LBBs (little brown birds). Look baby cones! We came across the remains of an old homestead; if only this chimney could talk. Loved the mountain peaks agains the blue skies and the white pufferbellied clouds. Worth the climb. A spot of springs arrival to the forest! Buds ready to burst!  A cave!! Well, actually it is an overhang, but served as a great place to stop and enjoy a snack. Will climbed down and played in the stream. More beauties on the forest floor. More gazes up to the hill tops. And these two yellow butterflies found each other! A stop to rest. Pecos Wilderness! See our little cave We liked being around the trees, the mou...
