Last day at Piney Creek Wilderness Camp

Image
The Mockingbirds hatched!! (go back a blog and click to do a movie showing this little guy.) We found several walkingsticks hanging on the van.  Will let them crawl up his arm And put them on a tree.  We watched them climb; they go pretty fast when they want to! Like the green on this young fellow. this poor fellow had lost a few legs, and is playing dead; he headed right up the tree though when Will put him on the trunk. Goodbye campsite. Down our wiggly road. Stopped to fill up on water at the floating restaurant and saw these vultures waking up. In Reed Springs we found the original Bass Pro Shop of the area!  Today there is a huge massive one at Branson Landing. We stopped at the thrift shop in town then headed into Branson to check on our iphone.  It has no sound when someone calls; have to use the bluetooth or speaker phone.  Decided to just make do untill September/October and get the new Iphone 5 with Verizon service. Next, laundry, lunch and last was sh...

Baby Mockingbirds

Oh my they hatched. We know that Mockingbirds imitate the sounds of many other birds. Here a newborn, day old Mockingbird imitates the sound of a hungry bird.

In the Wilderness

So many butterflies, little blue ones, small yellow ones, big black ones, large orange ones with spots and bright yellow ones. One the weekend the camp next door was filled with horse trailers and lots of people who would spend the day out riding the trails. We took a few walks and another long thee hour hike into the wilderness. We found a mockingbird sitting on her nest. She has three eggs! In about two weeks they will hatch.  Speaking of birds there are so many song birds here chirping the days away. Love their music. Meals are yummy; somehow everything taste so good. Bugs come to visit; most don't stay long.  the flies on the other hand were a real nuisance, but we solved that problem with a solution of water, vinegar and dish soap-no more flies...well, at least not so many. We pass our time reading, beading, blogging and gaming.  See the fly swatter?  That is for the big furry bees that hover at your face. We let all our walkingsticks free; they were not eating ...

Hike in Piney Creek Wilderness, MO

Image
Started off a pretty smooth well used horse/hike trail. Found some interesting webs along the way; would not want to run into the owners. Soon the slopes got steep and the rocks came out to wiggle under your feet. The flowers were beautiful. The rock ledges and outcropings were spectacular. Strange flowers. Neat looking shelf fungus. Occasional wildflowers. About half way we stopped and had lunch in a clearing countless others had obvious used too. Then came the climb back up.  Interesting rocks with glitters all through it. We had to cross a few valleys; this one had a creek. The views were majestic seeing out across the valley to ridges beyond. We made only one wrong turn up a side social trail; Kathy was getting tired by this time. But we were rewarded with this treasured little wildflower; see the star at it's center.  We made it back to camp and enjoyed a nice cold glass of fresh squeezed lemonade.
