Sister Trip 2010 Part Fourteen and A Half

Will drove south and met up with the RedHead Express at the REX theater in Galax, Virginia.  They played to a crowd of over 400! The Walker Boys Brett plays some mean spoons! Dueling banjos! Love those outfits! The new CD, Borrowed and Blue is now out! Will followed them to Marion and met up with Kathy and Sueann.  While waiting around, he performed his duties as RedHead Express Roadie.

PART FOURTEEN Marion is nested in the highlands of southwestern Virginia.   It’s most famous product is Mountain Dew!   The sisters found their B&B, The Collin’s House.   They felt like they had just walked in to a Southern Living Magazine.   Dave and Sheila were gracious hosts.   Kathy and Sueann then quickly freshened up and met Will at Molly’s Bistro where they enjoyed a tiny pizza together sharing bits of adventures they had each had over the last several days.   They walked across the street to the Lincoln Theater.   It is one of three existing Art Deco Mayan theaters left in America.   It was restored in 2004 and is just gorgeous.   Tonight we were here for Song Of The Mountain, a rich diversity of native music.    These monthly performances are recorded and edited for public television.   One of Kathy and Will’s favorite groups was playing: The RedHead Express!   Will had followed them the last few days and...

PART THIRTEEN Breakfast was a special occasion.   The sisters sat in the Willows Drawing Room along with another sibling couple, a brother and sister from the northeast.   They were all treated to a candle-lit three-course breakfast of cranberry muffin and fruit, soufflé of grits and spinach, and biscuit with jam. Sueann and Kathy left the Wright Inn relaxed and ready for the next leg of their journey, The Blue Ridge Parkway.   The Blue Ridge Parkway begins at the southern end of the Skyline Drive and it's terminus is in western North Carolina in the Great Smokey Mountains.   T hey were doing a short distance of the almost 500 miles of parkway.  They entered the parkway just north of Ashville, Virginia and stopped at the Folk Art Center and Allanstand Craft Shop.   There Sueann found a few treasures including a hand crafted cornhusk magnolia she got for each of them as a remembrance of their trip together. They could have spent hours there watchin...

PART TWELVE Back in the car with Sueann driving and Victoria, the GPS, going in and out as the sisters weaved their way through the mountain.   Sueann gave the wheel over to Kathy and they continued to Asheville, North Carolina.   The B&B was located on a street, but here in Ashville there are roads with the same name.   For example: Pine Street, Pine Circle, Pine Avenue, Pine Court. So Victoria was very confused indeed.   They were on a hill driving around and going up and down streets.   They  figured they were on the correct street, but the number for their B&B was just plain missing.   One more time up and down the narrow street with cars parked on both sides and they would just try to call for directions like good women from Venus.   Sueann spotted the house across the intersection!   Kathy pulled down back and with our confirmation paper in hand they walked up to the door and rang the bell.   A lady came to the doo...
