Mount Airy fall festival

October 7,2009 We took off from our house in Plum finally after about seven weeks. We have not had a house for so many years being there was a challenge. The first time we left just to do some shopping we both walked out leaving everything open! So we learned we have to lock up when we leave. This time we will be out for a time so we had to line up friends and family to check on the place, had to turn off the water, lower the furnace, and make sure mail and newspapers were picked up and plants were watered. What a learning experience. We made it to West Virginia; beautiful drive. The breeze is soft, the sun is bright peeking between the pufferbelly white clouds and the leaves are a splash of color on the hillsides. We missed our farms so had to find a wifi hit to check in on Farm Town and Farm Ville. . . and yes to keep up with our scramble contests. We are addicted!

We had a wonderful time at Heinz Hall on October 4th, 2009. Anne Martindale Williams played the cello making Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme dance in our heads. It was breath taking and at the end everyone in the audience jumped to their feet in rounds of clapping. The Four Seaons Op 8, Nos.1-4 made the seasons come alive. Mr. Cardenes, in his 20th and final year as Concertmaster with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orhestra, not only conducted but played the violin. To help the muscians understand the feelings they were to depect to the audienceVivaldi included at the beginning of each season a poem that corresponded closely with the music itself. Here is one of the sonnets for fall: At the new dawn the hunters set out on the hunt with horns, guns and dogs. The wild beast flees, and they follow its track; already bewildered and wearied by the great noise of the guns and dogs, wounded, it threatens weakly to escape, but overwhelmed, dies.
