May 9, 2009 We entered the Benedum Theater ready for a romp through Rossini's North Africa. We were dazzled by the opera, The Italian Girl in Algiers. Act one opens with an airplane flying across the stage area where a large book lies in the sands. The book opens and inside the palace of bey Mustafa pops out. In this act we meet Elvira who has lost favor with her husband, Mustafa and is being sent away with a servant, Lindoro. Mustafa wants a nice Italian woman and orders his captain to get him one. Isabella arrives on the scene lamenting the cruelty of fate that has interrupted her quest for her lost fiance, Lindoro. The captain and his guard capture Isabella and her aging admirer, Taddeo and bring them to the palace. The act ends with a wonderful scene where Mustafa meets Isabella who with lots of ceremony demonstrates her certainty of dealing with men and recognizes that Lindoro is about to leave with Elvira. We are now settling in here at Jayne's. Kathy is putting together a menu for the month and trying to keep to our diets of low fats, low calories, low food intake, low cost, low low low..... So what do we eat then! For breakfast we are pretty good with our Fiber One cereal, half a hard boiled egg and 1/2 cup of blueberries. The rest of the day is a wash so if you have a recipe we could use please send it along via email: visitvango@gmail.com Jayne is doing well; she has radiation treatments every day at 2:45pm. It works out to be an hour or so from leaving the house to getting back again. Thank you for all the prayer and well wishes.

May 6, 2009 Kathy headed over for a day with her sister Carmine. Bailey greeted her at the door with bounds of energy that only a new lab puppy can display. After some coffee and conversation we headed out to the front flower bed and weeded, rearranged the rocks and cleaned up the area. We took Bailey out for a nice walk; he is learning to walk and not pull Carmine along. Sueann arrived and we tackled the garden in the back. Carmine added top soil with miracle grow, Sueann fixed the walkway stones and Kathy took out the cement border and put them back in nice and straight. Then we broke for lunch. Carmine made a yummy fish and assaragus dish. Then back to the garden where we planted bushes, tree, and bulbs. Now we see trees of green, flower buds and bushes too; We see them bloom for me and you; And we think to ourselves, "What a wonderful world."
