Laguna Atascos

We use to volunteer out here at the refuge and one of our favorite times was early morning so we jumped in the sports car and drove out to the refuge for a drive about.  We were greeted by this morning lark singing its song of joy

The cormorants were lined up ready for a day of fishing.

Gulls were checking the tide waters for little critters; like that bright orange beak!

Osprey were in their usual spot.

The caracara, Mexican Eagle, were perched on the yucca tree playing look out.

Cactus are ready to burst into bloom

The great blue heron is out along the shore line looking for little fishes that have lost their way

This is where we scared up a coyote and he leaped through the brush.

The MR2 looks good!

This hawk jumped out of the brush and flew right in front of us!

the little bunnies were in the road all along the way.  See the speed bumps; that is so traffic goes real slow just in case on ocelot decides to cross the road.  There are less than 100 left in the United States; there are lots in South America, but our population is not doing so well.

This brave little turtle decided to cross the road

Why did the turtle decide to cross the road?

We don't know but when he decided to go he certainly wasn't slow about it!

Curlew have a very long beak!  It was a good morning drive even if it decided to rain this morning and cool off!
