"Our Rock", Closed Canyon to Starlight Theater
April 14, 2008
After a relaxing morning we left "Our Rock" and stopped at Closed Canyon. The hike down through the canyon was interesting with rock walls over one hundred feet on each side of you. We went about a mile when we came to a pouroff with a twelve foot drop. We needed a rope if we wanted to continue to the end where the canyon empties into the Rio Grande River. We didn't have a rope and even if we did we didn't think we would have been able to make it down and up again so that was it, we turned around and hiked back out. We continued following along the Rio Grande River back toward civilization.

Star Light Theater in Terlingua is a popular spot for people to meet, enjoy a meal and some live entertainment. We are batting 500. Our first visit years ago we had shopped in the gift shop next door and stopped in for a blueberry desert. Then, we stopped one time on our way back from Alpine after shopping; the waitress refused to serve us because in town earlier that day unbeknownst to us that she was going to be our evening waitress, she had let her dog attack JMe and Will yelled for her to keep her dog under control and get it on a leash. We got another waitress and enjoyed our meal but there was a cold feeling in the place. Another time we met Ms Tracy at the Star Light for two-for-one hamburger night and we had a wonderful visit that extended to her place and finishing a bottle of wine as she tried to talk us into working for her. Recently we stopped on our way from La Jitas where we had listened to Thomas Michael Riley and Mike Blakley. We had a nice dinner and our waitress even took a picture of us posing us nicely with the mural behind us. Tonight we stopped for two-for one- hamburger night and were entertained by Butch Morgan. Our waiter had given our seats away then got them back sending the couple to the. We felt bad and told the waiter to bring them a drink and put it on our bill. The waiter asked them if they wanted a drink instead of just bringing them the drinks. The couple sort of waved and said something about we didn’t have to buy them a drink, took their seats at a table across the room when it became empty and that was that. Well, almost. When we paid the bill, Will wrote on the receipt the suggestion: next time someone buys a drink for someone, just bring the drinks and not ask thus making more business and not making the buyer mad by asking and being refused. The waiter was upset the suggestion was written instead to told and told us to leave. We were all finished and we were walking out anyway, but you get the picture of the attitudes here. Nice place to visit, but wouldn’t want this to be our weekly stopping place.
